The Mission's own non-governmental organization (NGO) MEA Foundation has just been formally approved by the government. MEA means "grow" in Kiswahili and the letters stand for Maendeleo, Elimu, na Afya, which means "development, education, and health." It is a subsidiary of the Anglican Diocese of Dar es Salaam and is chaired by Bishop Mokiwa. It allows the Mission to apply for funds and partner in ways that the diocese cannot. MEA should help the Mission raise more money for their important health work and for supporting the diocese's schools and budding micro-enterprise development. It allow to have a very transparent financial trail, making it clear to "funders" where every cent is going. The foreign exchange account that has been established for health will be monitored and audited by the MEA Foundation. It is directed by the former diocese accountant, Mr. Gao John Gao, who, in addition to being an excellent accountant, has been a successful leader in an NGO in the past.
